Let’s face facts. There are a lot of TV shows and films where the best bit is the title sequence.
Ever since Saul Bass and Maurice Binder swept away the traditional title sequence in favour of mini-films combining animation/live-action with some kicking music, there has been a lot of time and talent devoted to making that one minute grab you. Sometimes, you suspect, more thought and skill went into the titles than the rest of the damn thing.
The Art of the Title Sequence showcases the best of this mini art form. It includes interviews and reference material, and doesn’t distinguish between genres or mediums. So ‘Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace‘ shares the page with ‘Delicatessen‘ and ‘Reservoir Dogs‘.
But what it really does is remind you how the whole experience of a film or tv show can be recalled simply by watching the title sequence. It’s like a classier version of wasting hours on You Tube looking up half-forgotten tv shows. So you click on ‘Brazil’ to see what the designer, Richard Morrison, has to say about it and discover he also did ‘High Fidelity’ and ‘Sweeney Todd’.

Thank you for finding this for me. Really. Consider me very pleased indeed…
